Santa Claus is coming to (the) Town (of Vienna)
               
There’s nothing ho-ho-ho-hum about the Town of Vienna’s annual welcome of the merriest season of the year and the jolly ol’ elf himself. Join the Town of Vienna, Historic Vienna, Inc., and Church Street merchants as Santa arrives in Vienna aboard a 1946 fire engine at the Church Street Holiday Stroll Monday, December 2. Festivities will take place from 6-8:30 pm, with Santa arriving to help Mayor Laurie DiRocco light up the Town’s holiday tree about 6:15.
 
Local school choruses and other local bands and groups will get everyone in a jolly mood with performances of favorite holiday tunes. Performances will take place on a stage set up on Church Street, while other carolers will stroll throughout the historic commercial area.
 
After lighting the Town tree, Santa will greet youngsters at the Freeman Store and Museum. Parents, bring your phones or cameras, to snap a free and priceless photo.
 
Enjoy roasted marshmallows, provided by the Town of Vienna, as well as warm beverages served up by several Church Street businesses. Plan to find great gifts for those on your holiday list at the many Church Street businesses that will remain open throughout the evening. In addition, several Town businesses are expected to participate in the Town Business Liaison Committee’s annual window decorating contest, the theme of which this year is “Home for the Holidays.” The 2019 window decorating champ will be announced at the Church Street Stroll.
 
In addition, several historic structures will be open throughout the evening, including the Little Library, caboose, train station, Knights of Columbus (formerly First Baptist Church), and Vienna Presbyterian’s historic chapel. Vienna Presbyterian will host an array of fun, holiday activities.
 
Church Street, from Mill Street to Lawyers, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4-9 pm; a portion of Mill Street also may be closed for event activities. Traffic will be rerouted around the event.
