VPC Hosts: Dementia Care Ministry
The Monthly Gathering” at Vienna Presbyterian Church open to Members of the Community Living with Dementia and their Family Caregivers
Vienna Presbyterian Church has launched a new Dementia Care Ministry (DCM) designed to provide a warm and welcoming space for members of our community living with dementia along with support and encouragement for family caregivers.
The primary activity of the DCM is a Gathering held monthly from 11 am – 1 pm for those living with dementia and their caregivers. The first hour involves a time of group fellowship (music, fun and games), followed in the second hour by a light lunch with caregivers breaking out for a support group meeting while loved ones participate in volunteer-led stimulating activities and conversation in a safe and comfortable environment. Volunteers have received training on working with people who are living with dementia.
In addition to providing caring and mutual support for one another during the caregiver support group, information about various other resources and services in the community that may be of interest to caregivers and their loved ones is made available to families through this ministry.
2024 Gatherings are scheduled for 11 am – 1 pm on the second Monday of each month through June as follows: February 12, March 11, April 8, May 13, and June 10.
Please register during the week prior to a Gathering by calling Lara Ferreira at 703.938.9050 or by email at Lara.Ferreira@viennapres.org. For more information, go to the Vienna Presbyterian Church website or contact Ms. Ferreira for a copy of the “Monthly Gathering FAQs for Caregivers.”VPC Hosts: Dementia Care MinistryDate and Time
