Half Past First Cast Adds Louisiana Destination

Vienna residents who know the Half Past First Cast team and who’ve traveled with us, know that historically we’ve specialized in exotic fishing trips to Panama, Mexico, Guatemala, Alaska and Brazil. Now, for those of you looking for a quicker getaway, we’ve added our first location in the lower 48.

Grosse Savanne Lodge, near Lake Charles, Louisiana, is a first class fishing and hunting lodge. They’re known for their superior bass fishing on multiple private lakes. Indeed, many of the top bass pros go there to film their shows. But that’s not all. There’s also saltwater fishing on thousands of acres of private marsh and Lake Calcasieu. During the appropriate seasons, there’s also alligator hunting and world-renowned duck hunting. For those seeking non-consumptive recreation, the lodge can also lead eco-tours.

What makes this particularly great is that it’s so easy to get there. There are daily flights into Lake Charles from Houston and Dallas and lodge personnel can pick you up at the airport. We usually fly to Houston, rent a car, and drive the 2 ½ hours east. You can leave Northern Virginia in the morning and be there by early afternoon. That gives you a chance to take advantage of the chef’s exceptional cooking – plan on Cajun specialties like gumbo and etouffee, as well as Wagyu steaks and other delicacies.

This is the perfect location for corporate outings, family bonding, bachelor and bachelorette parties – and just quick getaways.
